THE DROP AND THE SEA

Standing there

confusion-confounded
not knowing how to change your heart
that has grown so strained with sorrows
just as the rumples of worn- out cloth
that one can never set right
no matter how so much you try to straighten,
I said something stupid
in the midst of our conversation.

With shadows disappearing
the face acquiring a sudden glow
looking downwards
You started laughing

In the laughter that stretched
beyond a minute,
suddenly choking
there collected a drop of water
at the corner of your eye.

Agonized at not being able to
feel and wipe it
at that very moment a hand got severed
and writhed inside me.

In that lone drop
though fallen not dried up
there brims
even now
My Sea.

துளியும்,கடலும்.

எவ்வளவுதான்நீவினாலும்
சரிசெய்யமுடியாத
பழந்துணியின் சுருக்கங்களைப் போல
வருத்தங்களால் சோர்ந்துவிட்ட உன்
மனதை மாற்ற
வழி அறியாது
குழம்பி நின்றவன்
உரையாடலின் நடுவே
அபத்தமாக எதுவோ
சொன்னேன்.
நிழல்கள் கலைய
சட்டென்று வெளிச்சமான முகத்துடன்
கண்களைத் தழைத்தபடி
சிரிக்கத் தொடங்கினாய்
நிமிடத்திற்கும் மேலாக
நீடித்த சிரிப்பில்
புரையேர உன்
விழியோரத்தில் திரண்டது
ஒரு துளி நீர்
தொட்டு அதை
துடைக்கமுடியாத
தவிப்பில்
எனக்குள் அப்போது
வெட்டுண்டு தவித்தது
ஒரு கை
உதிர்ந்தும் உலராத
அந்தவொரு துளியால்
தளும்பிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது
இப்போதுமென்
கடல்.
