INSIGHT - OCT-NOV, 2025
A POEM BY
RAGAVAPRIYAN THEJESWI
Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)My Banana Tree has grown tall
In that I have now started sprouting
Soon there would be Red Bananas
in clusters
Though it would be easy for me
to pluck
being there above....
they are debarking from below.
not being aware of my emerging
from inside.
I watch it all from up here.
The vendor woman carrying the basket
brimming with red-bananas
Moon-faced long stem’s
body shines all over in
soft sweat.
Unable to lie down and doze off
under the shade of the Banana tree
I have got inside once again
turning into a shoot.
Anyhow you are going to cut me
and tie me at the entrance
Please wait
till I give forth bunches
Please don’t slice the leaves
I am tied in the scraps
that curl round your fingers
that are slicing me.
With the virility of the tuber
buried in the soil
a Phoenix Banana baby
would spread its wings
and caress you with its beak.
And, for sure
You would relish it!
