THESE ARE DIFFERENT DOGS

All dogs keep prowling

All of them keep sniffing
They keep glancing at our face
They keep pursuing us
If we run in fear
They come chasing us
Enough if we grow a little familiar
they start licking us.

Street dogs have no names,
Pet dogs obey words;
Yet all dogs are the same.

Those dogs wearing ‘belt
though looking docile
we need to be cautious
always.

There are also dogs
which view all others
except those unconcerned
as foes indeed.

On seeing a bitch
the sensory nerves
swell and bloat in all dogs

For the stray dogs of this street
those of that street
are mostly unfriendly.

Dogs of all breed
are but the same.
Yet, for no rhyme or reason
barking at the stray dog moving in one corner
gives the balcony dog immense pleasure.

For some dog chasing us years ago
trying to bite
We ‘ve come to regard all dogs

foes downright.

இவை, வேறு நாய்கள்…

எல்லா நாய்களும் அலைகின்றன
எல்லா நாய்களும்
மோப்பம் பிடிக்கின்றன
முகத்தை முகத்தைப் பார்க்கின்றன
பின்னாலேயே வருகின்றன
பயந்து ஓடினால் துரத்துகின்றன
கொஞ்சம் பழகிவிட்டாலும் போதும்
உடனே நக்கத் தொடங்கிவிடுகின்றன.
தெருநாய்களுக்குப் பெயரில்லை
வார்த்தைகளுக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டவை
வீட்டு நாய்கள்.
என்றாலும் எல்லா நாய்களும்
ஒரே நாய்கள் தான்.
பார்க்க சாது மாதிரி தெரிகிற
‘பெல்ட்‘ போட்ட நாய்களிடம்
ஜாக்கிரதையாகவே
இருக்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது எப்போதும்.
கண்டுகொள்ளாமலிருக்கிற
ஓரிருவரைத் தவிர
எல்லோரையும் விரோதியாகப் பார்க்கிற
நாய்களும் உண்டு.
எல்லா நாய்களுக்கும், உணர்வு நரம்புகள்
புடைத்துவிடுகின்றன தான்
பெட்டையைக் கண்டால்.
இந்தத் தெரு நாய்களுக்கு
அந்தத் தெரு நாய்கள், பெரும்பாலும்
சினேகிதமாய் இருந்ததில்லை.
ஒத்த குணத்தில் தான் இருக்கின்றன
எல்லா ஜாதி நாய்களும்.
இருந்தாலும், ஒதுங்கிப் போகிற
தெருநாயைப் பார்த்துக்
காரணமில்லாமல் குரைப்பதில் தான்
பால்கனி நாய்க்கு பரம சந்தோசம்.
எப்போதோ விரட்டி விரட்டிக்
கடிக்க வந்த நாய்க்காக
எல்லா நாய்களையும்
விரோதம் பாராட்ட வேண்டியிருக்கிறது.
