THE ENDURING WAIT

Mother is waiting _

For her daughter buried in Semmani
For her son who she accompanied till Pudhu Maathalan
and handed over
Shielding herself from the monsters 
who bother her
every now and then, during nights

Again and again
having to lead the life of a fugitive _

so being _

My Mother
is forever waiting
for our homecoming.

அம்மா
இன்னும் காத்திருக்கிறாள்.
செம்மணியில் புதையுண்ட மகளை...
புதுமாத்தளன் வரை
கொண்டு சென்று ஒப்படைத்த மகனை
அடிக்கடி
இரவுத்தொல்லை தரும் அரக்கர்களிடமிருந்து
ஒதுங்கி
மீண்டும், மீண்டும் தலைமறைவு
வாழ்க்கை
வாழும் என் தாய்
இன்னும் காத்திருக்கிறாள்.
எங்களின் வருகைக்காய்..

As the Vedanthangal 

sanctuary of a Bird
We’ve come.
We became birds
Nests, chicks – so we’ve let our roots run deep
beyond the possibility of digging up.
In cuckoo’s nest the crows
came to rest;
laid eggs.
Now, tell me, dear cuckoo _
whose land is that?
Which land – this or that?
After turning into refugee birds with wings ripped?
In cuckoo’s reminiscence
Blood forever oozes
in the deadly gashes.

ஒரு பறவையின்
வேடந்தாங்கலென வந்துவிட்டோம்..
பறவைகளாகினோம்..
கூடுகள்,குஞ்சுகள் என
வேர்களை ஓடவிட்டாயிற்று,
பெயர்க்கவே முடியாதபடி...
குயிலின் கூட்டில் காகங்கள் குடிகொண்டன..
முட்டையிட்டன..
எனி
அது யார் நிலம் எனச் சொல்
குயிலே..
அந்த நிலமா?இந்த நிலமா?
இறகுகள் வெட்டப்பட்ட அகதிப்பறவியாய் ஆனபின்...?
குயிலின் நினைவுள்
மரணக்கீறல்களில்
தினமும் குருதி ஒழுகும்..
