II am not able to ascertain whether that which is there in Gandhi’s ‘Hand-Charkha – 

is the wheel of bicycle. didn’t verify the notion that if Gandhi had willed he would have changed a decree
Utham Singh is to have gone to London and joined in a horse-stable – is it so?
For how many pounds he would have purchased a gun
I remember
the way Peace displayed in the Gandhi Museum lying sideways with the blood-stained cloth
children are taken to see as part of viewing and enjoying the army air-shows.
Along the highways leading to Mahabalipuram, heavy traffic jam
On the last day of an extended Military and Defense Exhibition, admission free
But no note whatsoever that they have saved a civilian on the mountains or seas.
Please understand
these three war planes flying upside down
do appear as a scene from circus in summer.

காந்தியின் கைராட்டையில் இருப்பது மிதிவண்டி சக்கரமா என்னால் உறுதி செய்ய முடியவில்லை
காந்தி நினைத்தால் ஒரு தண்டனையை மாற்றியிருக்கலாமென சொல்லிய விஷயத்தை சரிபார்த்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை
உத்தம்சிங் இலண்டன் சென்று குதிரைலாயத்தில் சேர்ந்து கொண்டாராமே
ஒரு துப்பாக்கியை எத்தனை பவுண்ட் மதிப்பில் வாங்கியிருப்பார்
எனக்கு நினைவிருக்கிறது
காந்தி மியூசியத்தில் காட்சிப்பொருளாகியிருக்கிற உதிரக்கறை படிந்த ஆடையுடன் அமைதி ஒருக்களித்து படுத்துக்கொண்டிருப்பதை
குழந்தைகள் இப்போது ராணுவ சாகசங்களைக் காண்பதற்கென அழைத்துச் செல்லப்படுகின்றனர்
அந்த மாமல்லபுரத்து சாலைகளில் கடும் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல்
ஒரு நீட்டிக்கப்பட்ட கண்காட்சியின் கடைசி நாளில் நுழைவு இலவசம்
ஆனாலும் மலைகளிலோ கடலிலோ அவர்கள் ஒரு சிவிலியனைக் காப்பாற்றியதாக குறிப்புகளில்லை
தயைகூர்ந்து புரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்
தலைகுப்புறக் கவிழ்ந்து செல்லும் இந்த மூன்று போர் விமானங்கள்
கோடைகால சர்க்கஸ் காட்சியெனத் தோன்றி விடுகிறது.

Father is turning into an element
If father chanced to be there during periods of power-cut
he would create deer in the shadow of the wall.
When the Maadakulam lake was about to overflow
right at mid-noon tying the coir-rope in the cradle-nozzle
he demonstrated how to climb on to the attic.
During rainy seasons he would be writing on the gunny bags
the name of the place and numbers in green ink
and would stitch it real stiff
using the thick long needle meant for the job.
No trade left untouched by him.
During the noon hour of Sundays
we would be waiting in queue
all eager to receive the curd-rice ball he would give.
He used to hide the fact of his smoking.
Later his cigar-fragments became visible.
In his shirts the cigarette powder would have drawn
red-hued borders.
Along with cigarette smell patches of snuff powder
He began returning home late at nights.
Father was slowly turning into an element.
In Periodic Table there would be a room exclusive for father.
In that I would be inserting my finger
into the smoke-rings emitted
enacting Bollywood's evergreen villain Pran.

The periodic table, also known as the periodic table of elements, is a tabular display of the chemical elements, which are arranged by atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties. The structure of the table shows periodic trends.

The organization of the periodic table can be used to derive relationships between the various element properties, and also to predict chemical properties and behaviours of undiscovered or newly synthesized elements. Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev published the first recognizable periodic table in 1869, developed mainly to illustrate periodic trends of the then-known elements. He also predicted some properties of unidentified elements that were expected to fill gaps within the table. Most of his forecasts proved to be correct.

மழைக்காலங்களில் சாக்கு மூடைகளில் பச்சை மசியில் ஊரின் பெயரையும் எண்களையும் எழுதிக் கோணூசியில் முறுக்கி முறுக்கித் தைப்பார்
தொடாத தொழிலில்லை
ஞாயிறு பின்மதியங்களில் தயிரைக்குழைத்துத் தரும் ஒருபிடி கவளச்சோற்றுக்கு வரிசைகட்டி நிற்போம்
அவர் சிகரெட் பிடிப்பதை மறைத்து வந்தார்
பின்போ அவர் சிகரெட்டுகள் கண்களில் தென்படத் துவங்கின
அவரின் சட்டைகளில் சிகரெட் துகள்கள் சேப்புகளில் ஓரம் பிடித்திருக்கும்
சிகரெட் வாசனையோடு மூக்குப்பொடி திட்டுகள்
இரவுகளில் தாமதமாக வீடு திரும்ப ஆரம்பித்தார்
அப்பா மெல்ல தனிமமாகிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்
பீரியாடிக் டேபிளில் அப்பாவிற்கென ஓர் அறையிருக்கும்
அதில் பிரானை பாவனை செய்து விட்ட சுருள் புகையில் நான் விரலை நுழைத்து விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருப்பேன்.
