TWO POEMS BY 

 U NIZAR

MOTHER

When I was a tiny little child

whimpering and weeping
My mother
brought me to the rooftop terrace
and showed me the Moon strolling around
“Catch me that and give me”
insisted I again and again.

Turning dumbfounded, wondering what to do
she went running
returned with a bucket full of water
and placed it by my side.
The Moon was at my feet.
Enthralled when I jumped leaping in joy
her face shone
as another Moon.

சின்னஞ் சிறு பருவத்தில்
சிணுங்கலும் அழுகையுமாக இருந்த என்னை
எனது தாய்
நிலாமுற்றம் வரை அழைத்து வந்து
நீல வானில் உலா வரும்
நிலவைக் காட்ட
அதைப் பிடித்துத் தா ... என
நான் மீண்டும் அடம் பிடித்தேன்

செய்வதறியாது திகைத்த அவள்
ஓடிப் போய்
நீர் நிறைந்த வாளியொன்றுடன் வந்து
அதை எனக்கருதில் வைக்க
நிலவு எனது காலடியில் இருந்தது
நான் அகமகிழ்ந்து துள்ளிக் குதிக்க
இன்னுமொரு நிலவாய்
அவளின் முகம் காட்சி தந்தது.

2. CUSTOM

Building the nest is the next goal of the

pair of sparrows in love

For that
going in search of twig
carrying it in its beak
arriving at the top of a tree
rain…. heat… wind…
so knowing the climates
finding the appropriate direction
the twosome build the nest.

There are also sparrows
that, bending large leaves with their beaks
sticking them with their saliva
so erecting their nests.

Just as the crow its nest also being crude
the koel too makes it its abode.

Fireflies glued with paste of mud
turn night into day
inside the nest of weaverbird

All these arts of living
are the nuances
that the sparrows have carried forward
In their genes..

They being so
some men, O no _
demand house as dowri
holding it their ancestry.

கூடு கட்டுவதுதான்
காதல் வயப்பட்ட
இரண்டு குருவிகளின்
அடுத்த இலக்கு

அதற்காக
குச்சி தேடி
அதைச் சொண்டில் சுமந்து
மரமொன்றின்
உச்சி வரை வந்து
மழை ... வெயில் ... காற்று
தட்ப வெட்பம் அறிந்து
ஏற்ற திசை கொண்டு
கூடு கட்டுகின்றன
அந்தக் குருவிகள்

அகன்ற இலைகளை
சொண்டால் வளைத்து
தமது ...
உமிழ்நீர் கொண்டு ஒட்டி
கூடு கட்டும் குருவிகளும்
இருக்கவே செய்கின்றன

காகத்தைப் போல
அதன் கூடும்
கரடு முரடாக இருக்க
அதையே
குயிலும்... தனக்கு
கூடாக்கிக் கொள்கிறது

சேறு குழைத்து
ஒட்டப்பட்ட
மின்மினிப் பூச்சிகள்
தூக்கணங்குருவிக் கூட்டுக்குள்
இரவைப் பகலாக்குகின்றன

இந்த ...
கலைகள் எல்லாம்
குருவிகள் ... தமது
மரபில் சுமந்து வந்த நுட்பங்கள்

அவை ... அவ்வாறிருக்க
ஒரு சில ஆண்கள்
இன்னும் ... சீதனமாக
வீடு கேட்கிறார்கள்
அது ...தமது
மரபில் வந்த
வழக்கம் ஒன்றெனக் கூறி
