 1. THE FAMILY OF MATCHSTICKS

Thrown away matchbox is our house.
She and I are matchsticks.
Children are but candles that have by mistake got into a different box
During wintry nights
The moist kisses that we exchange with each other
are indeed magnificent.
In the rectangular world
paper sky
we have never seen
the Moon
Sun
Stars
Someone with a beedi in mouth
approaches our house.
Lifting the house
chasing out the son first
and lighting
then the daughter
wife
in the end, myself.
At the initial rub itself…..
Ah, what tale is this – come on
After all, it is to burn we are born.

தீக்குச்சிகளின் குடும்பம்
--
தூக்கிவீசப்பட்ட தீப்பெட்டி எங்கள் வீடு.
நானும் அவளும் மரக்குச்சிகள்
குழந்தைகளோ
தவறுதலாய் பெட்டி மாறி வந்துவிட்ட
மெழுகுக் குச்சிகள்.
குளிர்கால இரவுகளில்
நாங்கள் ஒருவருக்கொருவர்
பரிமாறிக்கொள்ளும் ஈர முத்தங்கள் அலாதியானவை.
செவ்வக உலகில்
காகித வானத்தில்
நாங்கள் பார்த்ததேயில்லை
நிலவை
சூரியனை
நட்சத்திரங்களை.
யாரோ ஒருவர் வாயில் பீடியை வைத்துக்கொண்டு
எங்கள் வீடு நோக்கி வருகிறார்.
வீட்டை தூக்கி
முதலின் மகனை வெளியேற்றி
உரச
பிறகு மகளை,
மனைவியை,
கடைசியாக என்னை.
முதல் உரசிலிலேயே...
சரிதான் இதென்ன கதை
எரியத்தானே பிறந்தோம்.

2. UNIQUE ANIMAL

Know not

who does it like who it dislikes
know not
what for it visits and leaves
know not why to kill it.
All that I know is that
It is a rat.
Tiny to look at.
So trifling that dies for
a small slice of coconut
or a ‘vadai’
Or a tomato
Further
a very exclusive animal
that anybody can easily torture
kill…
above all
turning us valorous heroes.

பிரத்யேக பிராணி
யாரை
பிடிக்கும் பிடிக்காதென்றெல்லாம் தெரியாது.
எதற்கு வருகிறது போகிறதென்றும் தெரியாது.
எதற்கதை கொல்ல வேண்டுமென்றும் தெரியாது.
எனக்கு தெரிந்தது
அதுவொரு எலி.
பார்க்க சின்னதாக இருக்கும்.
சிறு தேங்காய் பத்தைக்கோ
வடைக்கோ அல்லது
தக்காளிக்கோ
தன் உயிரையே விடுகிற அல்பம்.
மேலும்
யாரும்
எளிதில் சித்திரவதை செய்ய முடிகிற
கொல்ல முடிகிற
எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேலாக
நம்மை வீர புருஷர்களாக்கும் பிரத்யேக பிராணி.
