THE EXEMPLARY READER OF LANGUAGE

That was a well dug in an arid region.
Real deep
If screamed from above
standing on the ground
Going inside and circling
the voice would climb up and return.
So deep indeed.

Now, tell me
just because it is deep
will you send a bucket into the well?
Isn’t water important?
If it is there right up to the rim
for you to touch with your tongue
and fetch it
will you call it weightless?

Oh you exemplary readers of language _
Are you able to figure out
which Well
and What Depth I refer to!

மொழியின் அற்புதமான வாசகன்

தண்ணீர் கிடைக்காத பிராந்தியத்தில்
தோண்டப்பட்ட கிணறு அது
நல்ல ஆழம்
வெளியே கரையில் நின்று கத்தினால்
உள்ளே ஒரு வட்டமடித்துவிட்டு
குரல் மேலேறி வரும்
அவ்வளவு ஆழம்
இப்போது சொல்லுங்கள்
ஆழம் மட்டும் இருக்கிறது என்பதால்
அந்தக் கிணற்றின் உள்ளே
வாளியை இறக்குவீர்களா?
நீர் முக்கியமல்லவா
நாவினால் தொட்டு எடுக்கும் அளவுக்கு
அது மேலே கிடைத்தால்
அதில் கனம் இல்லையென்பீர்களா ?
மொழியின் அற்புதமான வாசகர்களே
உங்களுக்குப் புரிகிறதா?
நான் எந்தக் கிணற்றைச் சொல்கிறேனென்று
எந்த ஆழத்தைச் சொல்கிறேனென்று !
