Amidst the wreckage of the devastated city

God and myself met.

Children lay scattered on the streets

as fragments of a tiny toy

torn to pieces by a giant hand.

Their parents were running hither and thither

as keyed up toys.

Looking at the wide-open eyes

of children lying on the road

their sisters were sobbing.

A little girl with nothing beneath the hip

forgetting to die

kept on calling the name

of her younger sister

God and myself walked along the city.

“Till this morning these rubbles remained as homes

These corpses were children

The half-bodied little girl seen just a little while ago

was dancing in front of her little sister, crying in hunger,

making her forget it.”

Both of us said in one voice

“SHAME”

Halting a moment

once again

we looked straight into each other’s eyes and said:

“SHAME”

For the first time in the history of mankind

we both

agreed upon what we’ve said.

அழிந்த நகரத்தின்

இடிபாடுகளிடையே

நானும் கடவுளும் சந்தித்துக்கொண்டோம்

குழந்தைகள்

ஒரு ராட்சதக்கை பிய்த்துப்போட்ட

சிறிய பொம்மையின் பாகங்கள் போல

வீதிகளில் கிடந்தார்கள்

அவர்களது பெற்றோர்கள்

சாவி முறுகிவிட்ட

பொம்மைகள் போல

அங்குமிங்கும் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

வீதியில் கிடக்கும் சிறுவர்களின்

திறந்த கண்களை பார்த்தபடி

அவர்களது சகோதரிகள் அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்

இடுப்புவரை மட்டுமே இருந்த

ஒரு சிறுமி

இறக்கவும் மறந்து

அவளது தங்கையை

பெயர் சொல்லி அழைத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தாள்

நானும் கடவுளும்

நகரத்தினூடே நடந்தோம்

''இந்த இடிபாடுகள் இன்று காலை வரை வீடுகளாக இருந்தன

இந்த பிணங்கள் குழந்தைகளாக இருந்தன

சற்று முன்பு அரை உடலாக பார்த்த சிறுமி

பசியில் அழும்

அவளது தங்கையின் முன்பு நடனமாடி

அதை மறக்கடித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தாள் ''

நாங்கள் இருவரும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் சொன்னோம்

''அவமானம் ''

நடையை நிறுத்திவிட்டு நின்று

மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை

ஒருவரை ஒருவர் கண்களில் பார்த்துச் சொன்னோம்

உரத்த குரலில்

''அவமானம்!''

சரித்திரத்தில் முதல் முறையாக

நாங்கள் இருவரும்

ஒருவர் சொல்வதை ஒருவர் ஒத்துக்கொண்டோம் .
