That boy stands there
as the very personification of longing
What a great height wonders he looking up
You look nothing extraordinary.
If this itself denotes great height
then, what a hollow pit he must be dwelling in

He has bought a two-storey house
This one has bought a car.
During Holy Mother’s ten day festival
They buy new dresses on all ten days.

How can anyone live in this street
Tell me brother
Asks he.

Let the job be anything whatsoever
but first
reduce the height seen by this boy
and fill up the pit,
My Lord
Let him migrate,
nothing wrong
But, he shouldn’t regard this rat-hole
as Great height.
He too was an inhabitant of this street
You see.

அந்தச் சிறுவன்
அப்படி ஏங்கி நிற்கிறான்
எவ்வளவு உயரம் என்று பார்க்கிறான்
நீங்கள் சாதாரணமாகத்தான் இருக்கிறீர்கள்
இதுவே உயரமென்றால்
அவன் எவ்வளவு
பள்ளத்திலிருக்கிறான் பார்த்தீர்களா ?
அவன் இரண்டுமாடி போட்டுவிட்டான்
இவன் கார் வாங்கியாச்சு
புனித அன்னை பத்துநாள் திருவிழாவில்
பத்து நாளும் புதுத்துணி
வாங்குகிறார்கள்
இந்தத் தெருவில்
எப்படி
வாழமுடியும் ?
சொல்லுங்கள் அண்ணா
என்று கேட்கிறான்
எந்த வேலை வேண்டுமாயினும்
இருக்கட்டும்
முதலில் இச்சிறுவன் பார்க்கும்
உயரம் குறைத்து
பள்ளம் நிரப்புங்கள்
ஆண்டவரே
அவன் இடம்பெயருவதைப் பற்றிகூட
ஒன்றுமில்லை
என்றாலும்
இந்த எலிக்குகையை
இவ்வளவு உயரமென்று
அவன்
எண்ணக் கூடாது
அவனும்
இதே தெருவில்
வசித்தவன்
பார்த்தீர்களா?
