THE TALE OF 

BEWILDERED CHILDREN

O, why does the child get up half way

through the sleep
And weeps
Shaken by nightmares?
Feeling hungry and sobbing?
Indigestion of the food
had in the evening
Wonder what, O _
At a loss to know
Despite being consoled by
Mother’s caressing hug
and Father’s words of endearment
The child doesn’t stop crying.
When offered milk it refused to drink
Not even a year old
How to investigate
The darling kid which knows not
how to talk
knows no reason
Can find none
Not knowing what to do
Unable to feel infuriated
The child cries – toys, cartoons and so
We showed it all that it likes all the more.
The child cries
We gave it candies
Nevertheless, the children waking up
half way through the sleep
continued to weep
all through the night
as our hapless tribe.

எதுவும் புரியாத குழந்தைகளின் கதை
பாதிதூக்தில் குழந்தை எழுந்து
அழுகிறது
கனவுகளில் பயந்து போனதா
பசியில் அழுகிறதா
நுளம்பு எதுவும் கடித்துவிட்டதா
மாலை சாப்பிட்ட உணவு அஜீரணமா
ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை
ஒன்றுமே புரியவில்லை
தாயின் அணைப்பும்
தந்தையின் செல்ல வார்த்தைகளும்
கிடைத்தும் அழுகை நிறுத்தவில்லை
பால் ஊட்டிய போதும் குடிக்கவில்லை
ஒரு வயதுகூட இல்லை
எப்படி புலன்விசாரணை செய்வது
இன்னும் பேசுவதற்கு தெரியாத
அந்த செல்லத்துக்கு
காரணம் கூட தெரியவில்லை
காரணம் கண்டுபிடிக்கவும் முடியவில்லை
ஒன்றுமே புரியவில்லை
கோபமும்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை
குழந்தை அழுகிறது விளையாட்டு பொருட்கள்
காட்டூன்
அதற்கு பிடித்த எல்லாம் காட்டினோம்
குழந்தை அழுகிறது
இனிப்புகள் கொடுத்தோம்
ஆனாலும் பாதிதூக்கத்தில் எழுந்த குழந்தைகள்
அழுகை இரவு முழுவதும் தொடர்ந்தது.
