We are ordinary humans

We need a leader
We are commoners
We need a redeemer
We are weaklings
We can’t do without God.
We are men
We need women
Then
We need kith and kin
And artistes of all kinds
Further
We need comforts pleasures
Money
More and more
Revelries merriment
Everything
Joy, rapture
and what not
For all that
We need society
Also
Law and Order
Legends Mythologies
Moral tales
All and more - always
Such is the splendour
of our Great Grand Human Race

மானுடமென்றால் சும்மாவா
நாம்
சாதாரணர்கள்
நமக்கு
தலைவன் ஒருவன் வேண்டும்
நாம்
சராசரிகள்
நமக்கு மீட்பன் ஒருவன் வேண்டும்
நாம்
சாமானியர்கள்
நமக்கு
இறைவனில்லாமல் தீராது
நாம்
மனுஷர்கள்
நமக்கு
மனுஷியின்றி முடியாது
பின்னேயும்
உறவுகள் வேண்டும்
இன்னும்
கலைஞர்கள் வேண்டும்
மேலும்
சுகங்கள் வேண்டும்
மேலும் மேலும்
பணம் வேண்டும்
கேளிக்கைகள் கொண்டாட்டங்கள்
சகலமும் வேண்டும்
சந்தோஷம் ஆனந்தம்
அத்தனையும் வேண்டும்
இத்தனைக்கும் சமூகம் வேண்டும்
பிறகும்
சட்டம் ஒழுங்கு வேண்டும்
இதிகாசங்கள் புராணங்கள் நீதிநுால்கள்
எல்லாமே வேண்டும்தான்
மானுடமென்றால்
சும்மாவா

I am not in anybody’s suicide squad.
Though Spring fails
there is no place for brutal massacres
in the life of butterflies.
Writhing in the sun
being turned upside down
by the rain
yet the abject worms also
have a life of their own.
Aren’t you a rebel?
Well, my friend
I, as well _
in my twenties.

நான்
நான் யாருடைய தற்கொலைப் படையிலும் இல்லை
வசந்தம் தவறிய போதும்
வண்ணத்துப் பூச்சிகளின் வாழ்க்கையில்
வன்கொலைச் சாவுக்கு இடமில்லை
வெயில் காயும்
மழை புரட்டிப் போடும்
அல்பப்புழுக்களும் வாழ்ந்து
கொண்டிருக்காமல் இல்லை
நீ கலகக்காரன் இல்லை?
நல்லது நண்ப
நானும் கூடத்தான்
எனது இருபதுகளில்.

3. CAGED TIGERS

They have got so well accustomed

To the life of the stinking cages
Not much to complain
Timely food
Paired for mating at the proper time
Free to deliver cub
At liberty to enjoy the comfort of sleep
If angry
Can bang against the cage-bars
Can go round and round inside the cage
No crime
There is freedom to roar
Enough if performed gymnastics
Without grimacing
Fearing the swing of whip and behave
Behave fittingly would be brilliant.
It seems, long ago
in dense green jungles
these caged tigers were roaming around.

கூண்டுப் புலிகள்

நன்றாகவே பழகிவிட்டன
நாற்றக் கூண்டு வாசத்துக்கு
பெரிதாக ஒன்றும் புகார் இல்லை
நேரத்துக்கு இரை
காலமறிந்து சேர்த்து விடப்படும் ஜோடி
குட்டி போட சுதந்திரம் உண்டு
தூக்க சுகத்துக்கு தடையில்லை
கோபம் வந்தால்
கூண்டுக் கம்பிகளில் அறைந்து கொள்ளலாம்
சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வருவதும்
குற்றமே இல்லை
உறுமுவதற்கு உரிமையிருக்கிறது
முகம் சுழிக்காமல்
வித்தை காண்பித்தால் போதும்
சவுக்குச் சொடுக்குக்குப் பயந்து
நடந்து கொண்டால் சமர்த்து
ஆதியில் ஒரு நாள்
அடர்ந்த பசியக்காட்டில்
திரிந்து கொண்டிருந்தனவாம்
