WARDROBE’S LEFT END SIDE

The wardrobe’s last shelf’s left end side

is for those dead and parted;

The half-skirt and blouse worn by the small girl

when she heard the news of her sister’s suicide

are hanging on the clothesline

calling you swinging and swaying;

Can’t afford to forget those

black creeper leaves

spread on the salvar in the hue of cow-dung

worn on the last meeting.

Beside the feet of father grown chill

and stuffed into white socks

despite years many have gone by

sees she still

soaked with tears

the sari in black colour;

In her favourite attire

full of light blue flowers scattered all over

forever lingers

the smell of her

who lay in that hospital cot

with the trace of noose.

In those outfits worn in those snaps

taken by my friend who is no more

the memories of those respective days

remain.

For the attires weighing heavy

with memories of the past

each household will be having

a left end side.

அலமாரியின் இடதுமூலை

அலமாரியின் கடைசித் தட்டின் இடது மூலை

இறந்தவர்களுக்கும்

பிரிந்தவர்களுக்குமானது.

சகோதரியின் தற்கொலைச் செய்தியை

செவியுற்ற சிறுமி அணிந்திருந்த

பாவாடை-சட்டை

காலகாலமாய் கொடியிற் கிடந்து

அசைந்தசைந்து கூப்பிடுகிறது.

இறுதிச் சந்திப்பின்போது அணிந்திருந்த

சாணிப்பச்சை சல்வாரில் படர்ந்திருந்த

கறுப்புக் கொடியிலைகளையும் மறப்பதற்கில்லை.

வெண்ணிறக் காலுறைகள்

அணிவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தகப்பனின்

குளிர்ந்துபோன பாதங்களினருகில்

ஆண்டுகள் கழிந்தபின்னும் காண்கிறாள்

கண்ணீரின் ஈரமூறிய

கருநிறச் சேலையை.

மிகப் பிடித்ததும்

இளநீலப் பூக்கள் விசிறப்பட்டதுமாகிய ஆடையின்மீது

நித்தியமாய் படிந்திருக்கிறது

வைத்தியசாலைக் கட்டிலில்

சுருக்குத் தடத்தோடு

கிடத்தப்பட்டிருந்தவளின் வாசனை.

மறைந்த தோழியால்

எடுக்கப்பட்ட புகைப்படங்களில்

அணிந்திருந்த ஆடைகளில் ஒட்டியிருக்கிறது

அன்றன்றைய ஞாபகம்.

இறந்தகாலத்தின் பாரமேறிய ஆடைகளுக்கென்று

எல்லா வீடுகளிலும்

இருக்கக்கூடும்

ஓர் இடது மூலை.
