“PLUCKKkk…”

The dry pond is quiet and still

When a thin current of wind

swirls and gets on the shore

in the manner of making even the

small mounds and fissures,

When the trees spread the shadow

of their barren branches

and express thanksgiving in their own way

With the dung of sheep and rat

and urine spreading stench,

avoiding going around and

the cattle getting down straight

and reaching the bank

looking back at the length breadth

and depth of the waterbed

the pond remains quiet

just as an old woman

occasionally feeling the shrunken lines

of her abdomen

looking at its lines on the shore

and the shadows of the birds flying past

watching the dryness that flows on the shore

and climbs up the mountain

it stays quiet.

That day

at that time

an unknown woman

comes and sits on the pond-steps

searching from her sterile lap

she throws the stones

one by one

Three

Till that the pond watching quietly

and the fourth stone lands in it

வறண்ட குளம் அமைதியாக இருக்கிறது

மிகச் சின்னதான ஓரு காற்றுச் சுழல்

வெடிப்புகளைச் சமன் செய்வதைப் போலச்

சுழன்று கரையேறுகிற போதும்

மரங்கள் தமது

வெறுங் கிளைகளின் நிழலைப் போட்டு

தமதளவில் ஓர் நன்றியாற்றுகிற போதும்

முதல் நாளின் புழுக்கைகளும் சிறுநீரும் நெடி கிளப்ப

சுற்றிச் செல்வது தவிர்த்து

நேராக இறங்கிக் கரையேறும் மந்தை

குளத்தின் நீளம் அகலம் ஆழத்தை

திரும்பி பார்த்துச் செல்கிற போதும்

குளம் அமைதியாகவே இருக்கிறது

வயோதகி எப்போதாவது

தனது அடிவயிற்றின் சுருக்கங்களை

தடவிக்கொள்ளுதல் போல

சுற்றிலும்

கரையில் படிந்திருக்கும்

தனது கோடுகளைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு

கடக்கும் பறவைகளின் நிழல்களைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு

கரையில் வழிந்து மலையேறும்

வறட்சியைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டு

அமைதியாகவே இருக்கிறது

அன்று

அந்நேரம்

யாரோ அவள்

வந்து

படித்துறையில் உட்காருகிறாள்

திறக்காத மடியில் துழாவி

ஒவ்வொரு கல்லாய் எறிகிறாள்

ஒன்று

இரண்டு

மூன்று வரை

அமைதியாகப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தக் குளத்தில்
