(1) FOUR MOTHERS

That Mother

lies huddled in one corner of the patio.

First she got rid of the child in her.

In the place left by the child

the Mother’s face is radiant.

That Mother is sitting in a chair

With the trail of the little girl of heart

going away

absolutely jubilant

the emerging Word.

That Mother

is knitting Mat.

After sending away her mother-in-law

who was in her heart

being close to her now

the present Mother.

That Mother

Is sitting in the shrine’s ‘prakaaram’

After relinquishing everything

glows with all love

Her Fire.

நான்கு தாய்மார்கள்

அந்த தாய்

திண்ணையின் ஓரத்தில்

சுருண்டு படுத்திருக்கிறாள்

முதலில் தனக்குள்ளிருந்த குழந்தையை

வெளியேற்றினாள்

குழந்தை விட்டு வெளியேறிய இடத்தில்

பிரகாசமாயிருக்கிறது

தாயின் முகம்

அந்த தாய் நாற்காலியில் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறாள்

மனதின் சிறுமி வெளியேறிய தடத்துடன்

பூரித்துப் போயிருக்கிறது

வெளிப்படும்

சொல்

அந்த தாய் ஓலைக்கீற்றில்

பாய் முடைந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறாள்

தனது உள்ளத்தில் இருந்த மாமியாரை

வெளியேற்றிய பின்னர்

அவளிடம்

ஒட்டிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாள்

இப்போதைய

அன்னை

அந்த தாய் பிரகாரத்தில்

வந்து அமர்ந்திருக்கிறாள்

அனைத்தையும் வெளியேற்றிய பின்

காதலுடன்

சுடர்கிறது

அவள் நெருப்பு.

‘KOLAMS’ DRAWN BY VIJI

Kolams drawn by Viji

have four flowers in the centre.

There would be hues.

Even when they are not

the magic of having colours

in the Kolam

Viji alone knows.

While sprinkling water

the silhouette of the Kolam to be drawn

would surface within

God would be meditating.

The brilliance of Viji’s Kolangal

is too well known to one and all.

Forever in a delicate swirl

climbing up the road and alighting

Viji conceals herself

or comes out

In that for my nostrils

wild animals roar

their odour

Elephant’s trail

in eyes

That alone she draws

with her flesh

Gods alight in that curve.

They know perfectly well

that the place is meant for them.

It is for extinguishing the forest fire

first and foremost

Viji sprinkles water.

விஜி வரையும் கோலங்கள்

விஜி வரையும் கோலங்கள்

மையத்தில் நான்கு மலர்கள் கொண்டவை

வண்ணங்கள் இருக்கும்

இல்லாமல் இருக்கும் போதும்

வண்ணங்களை கோலத்தில் அமரச் செய்யும் வித்தை

விஜி மட்டுமே அறிந்தது

நீர் தெளிக்கும் நேரம் மனதில்

வரையவிருக்கும் கோலம் நிழலாடும்

தியானத்தில் இருக்கும்

தெய்வம்

விஜி வரையும் கோலங்களின்

சிறப்பு யாவரும் அறிந்ததே

எப்போதும் சாலையில் மேலேறி இறங்கும்

ஒரு நாசூக்கான சுற்றில்

விஜி ஒளிந்து கொள்கிறாள்

அல்லது வெளிப்படுகிறாள்

அதில் எனது நாசிக்கு

காட்டு விலங்கின் உறுமல் சப்தம்

மிருக வாசம்

கண்களில்

யானைத் தடம்

அதனை மட்டும் அவள்

தன்தசை கொண்டு

வரைகிறாள்

தெய்வங்கள் அந்த வளைவில்

வந்தமர்ந்து கொள்கின்றன

அவற்றுக்கு அவ்விடம் தாங்கள் அமர வேண்டியது

என்பது கச்சிதமாக

தெரிந்திருக்கிறது

காட்டுத் தீயை அணைப்பதற்குத்தான்

விஜி முதலில் தண்ணீர்

தெளிக்கிறாள்
