1. STARS ACCURSED

He began killing the stars slowly

However, a few escaped

But those that slipped off

couldn’t survive even for a few hours

_ so the story goes.

Some flowers which till then were in slumber

set out to pay homage.

With the light spreading slowly

the Moon rose and began walking.

Clinging to the Moon

there, half-dead, some comets

were sleeping

Now all the annihilated stars

would be wrapped in a sheet

and buried

or be burnt.

In yet another night

the stars would be killed

But the Moon alone

would commit suicide

while escaping

_ so it was noted down

in the Notes on corpses.

சபிக்கப்பட்ட நட்சத்திரங்கள்

நட்சத்திரங்களை மெல்ல கொல்லத்தொடங்கினான்

ஒன்றிரண்டு தப்பித்துக்கொண்டன

ஆனால், தப்பித்துக்கொண்டவை

சில மணிநேரத்துக்குக்கூட தாக்குப்பிடிக்கவில்லை என்பது கதை.

அதுவரை உறங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்த

சில பூக்கள் அஞ்சலிக்காக புறப்பட்டன.

வெளிச்சம் மெல்ல பரவியதும்

நிலவு எழுந்து நடக்க தொடங்கியது

நிலவைப் பிடித்தபடி பாதி உயிரோடு

உறங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தன

சில வால்நட்சத்திரங்கள்.

இனி கொல்லப்பட்ட நட்சத்திரங்கள்

எல்லாமாக உறையொன்றில்

அடைத்து புதைக்கப்படலாம்

அல்லது எரிக்கப்படலாம்

பிணங்கள் பற்றிய குறிப்பில்

இன்னொரு இரவிலும்

நட்சத்திரங்கள் கொல்லப்படும்

ஆனால் நிலவு மட்டும்

தப்பித்தலோடே தற்கொலை செய்யும்

என எழுதி இருந்தது.

2. HE WHO DRAWS THE SUN

I was disputing a painting hanging on their

white wall

The artist came running.

Upon the left hand of the fuming man

was a plate

and a few droplets of different shades.

The other hand had five different brushes.

Sitting on this bridge

I argued against the feasibility of

the shadow of the fisherwoman

drawn on the left side with a stroke

and that of the basket on the right side.

Within moments of startlingly

short span

stretching his legs above the sea

the artist drew the sun.

Now in the opposite direction

along with the fisherwoman’s shadow

another

became visible.

In that shade stood

a ten year old girl

stark naked.

சூரியனை வரைபவன்

அவர்களின் வெண்சுவரில்

தொங்கவிடப்பட்டிருந்த ஓவியம் ஒன்றோடு முரண்பட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தேன்,

அதன் ஓவியன் ஓடிவந்தான்.

கோபத்தோடு வந்தவனின்

இடது கையில் தட்டொன்றும்,

தட்டின் மேலே சொட்டு சொட்டாய்

சில வர்ணங்களும் இருந்தன.

மறு கையில் ஐந்து வெவ்வேறு தூரிகைகள் இருந்தன.

இந்த பாலத்தின் மேல் குந்தியபடி

மீன் விற்பவளின் நிழல் இடப்பக்கமாகவும்

கூடையின் நிழல் வலப்பக்கமாகவும்

கீறப்பட்டதன் சாத்தியம் குறித்து வாதாடினேன்.

எதிர்பார்காத நொடிகளுக்குள்

கடலுக்கு மேலே கால்நீட்டியபடி

சூரியனை வரைந்தான் ஓவியன்

இப்போது எதிர்த்திசையில்

மீன்காறியின் நிழலோடு

இன்னுமொரு நிழலும் தெரிந்தது.

அந்நிழலில் நிர்வாணமாய் நிண்டுகொண்டிருந்தாள்

பத்து வயதுச் சிறுமி.
