VIDYA MANOGAR

A POEM BY
VIDYA MANOGAR

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

From the radiance
of your eyes
A WORD
From the smile
sneaking on your lips
A WORD
From the warmth of
my palm
A WORD
From the womb’s
heat
A WORD
While living thus
with WORDS
Isn’t Life itself POETRY?_
O Yes!

உன்
என்

For days too many
You didn’t talk
What could be the reason
I wondered and wondered
Nothing I could gather.
True, the sky didn’t come down
crashing on the ground
Yesterday also
Full moon glowed
straight above
The war pronounced
has not yet commenced.
But, everywhere
Uncertain prevails
Starting late for the meeting agreed upon
In the wall clock glanced at hastily
In the split-second when the second hand
Tumbles down and moving on
You think of me
by chance
while bending towards your footwear.
And, thinking that it would prove
pricking all along
Before getting into the car
You carefully shed off the memory
and proceed.

2. BEYOND THE
BIOLOGICAL MOTHERHOOD....

In the countenance of
fatherless children
there would be an
invisible Orphanhood
inimitably Widespread.
There are those rare women
who
grasping it at the very first look
would embrace them
with all the affection in the world.
And they all
in such a young age
become Mothers
to many
grown-up children.

JEYANTHAN JESUDOSS

TWO POEMS BY
JEYANTHAN JESUDOSS
(Nova Nadhi)
Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

THE ULTIMATE TEXT ABOUT RAIN

The sky started leaking
The land began to rot
Old age became an all drenched blanket
In the joints that toiled till losing consciousness
The rusted doors groan
The shrunken skin all crumpled
Are streams from time immemorial
Droplets run through them
and search for the trails of youth past.
The rain that touches the staggering legs
Is but needle piercing to annihilate
For some woman
Tea at the window-corner
For some male
Watery mat
Spread by the leaking roof
Using the shovel called Rain
Time digs the land.
The droplets leaping and splashing
in the rock aged thousands of years
are but water-bullets.
Nothing is permanent here.
The degenerations of land are but
the invaluable signatures of Rain.
Siddhartha’s statue
and He believed to be a Siddha
are floating in the wrath of Rain
Rrgid and frozen.
Rain is not
Poetry being written by God
It is His ongoing interrogation.
......................................................................................
*FELLOW POET CHOZHAN VAALARIVAN'S READERLY TEXT:
............................................................................................
*Rain doesn’t pour. The sky slowly eases out its burden. The Land doesn’t accept it. It demolishes itself. Here, Nature is no mere scene here. that is the way Time is told. Old age is not a feeling or emotion. Just as the soaked blanket it presses itself hard on the body. the joints that had toiled hard till they lost consciousness are no more able to bear. The doors surrounding them, not being closed, groan. Man living within his body is revealed by the Rain here.
The shrunkenness of skin, its crumpling and shrinking appear like Land’s time-immemorial steams. When the rain-drops run htrough them it is not the journey of water. It is the trail of Time searching for the youth gone past and lost. The rain that touches the staggering legs is no pleasing coolness. It is the needle piercing inside, the rain that becomes the windowside Tea for one woman becomes aroofless night for another man. The same water – but different punishments.
Rain here is not Gods Poetry. It is the hand of Time that takes hold of the shovel and dig the land. At the instant when the droplets splashing on the rock aged thousands of years turn into water-bullets, all that was believed to be permanent start floating. Siddharthas statue, and the man who was believed to be a Siddha stand alike, rigid and frozen, with no difference at all. Rain doesn’t penalize. It interrogates. Continuously. Steadfastly. Till there is a response

(2)
I gushed out of a rock
None there to call me a fountain
I became a stream
The sky alone touched me
A Fawn soaking its legs
leapt crying ‘The source of river’
As I too leapt
The rainbow christened me
Waterfall.
I walked on
well past the foothills
They sanctified me as Mother
Trees called me their mirror
Stars tried to swim in my waves
Wherever she goes
She extends life to waterbeds
and fertility
As the mother of our lungs -
Said the silvery stars
with their eyes twinkling
dazzling against the eyes of
Moon playing waterskiing.
When I came to the city
I yearned to see the faces of those
going past hurriedly.
Those who spent time bathing in me
Got lost drowning in their own selves.
As bearing all the sins
Even the bridges don’t look at me.
The city goes past me
Day-in and day-out
Nut, I am not able to go past the city
Inside the prison of walls
I lie unconscious
Stars come not to swim
Moon wants not to do skiing
The fish
keep searching for me
in the tanks.

KOSINRA

A POEM BY
KOSINRA
(Gopal Rajendran)
Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

The black-hued crow
that was flying outside
a short while ago
is flying inside me
just as the Love wandering outside
has moved into me
now I teach Language to crow.
Once it gets acquainted
It would easily build a nest
Sometimes in the nest built by the crow
I would be.
Sometimes learning from the crow
How to fly
Sometimes
My body would metamorphose
into a crow.
Then I would go flying and sing the sky’s directions
with my words.
The sky would pursue me
and live in the nest built by the crow in my body
the coming crow would tell
Now you are made of sky
Here your tiny piece of land
is hanging in the sky.
In that tiny piece of land
a great grand ocean
On its shore stand your house
as a boat.
Go near the house and listen.
My song would be heard
In that song lies
the passage for your house
from the sky.
