THE CEREMONY OF

CHRISTENING THE MOUNT

The grand celebration of christening the mount

was arranged.

I too was chosen

for finding a befitting name to the mountain.

I try searching and finding an ancient one

Some asked us to name it with the help of Numerology

A gang insisted that we name it after the founder of their Party

Some held that it was they who hold aloft the mount

Another gang claimed to have fed the mount and offered water

And so they recommended names suiting their whims and fancies.

Wading through pressures of all sort

I hurry towards the venue with a name for the mount

There standing in front of the towering mount

I moved closer to secretly disclose to the mount first

the name I had coined for it

Hearing my voice the mount wailed and sobbed

Blood oozed out of its eyes _ Alas.

Its hunger

Its right

Its sorrow

The pillars of powers that betray it for ever

Eyeing me who has never found to all these -a solution

It wept with tears unleashed

as emitting poison

What can I do

What at all can I do….

மலைக்கு பெயர் சூட்டும் விழா.

மலைக்கு பெயர் சூட்டும் நிகழ்வினை நடாத்துவதற்கு

விழா ஏற்பாடாகியது.

மலைக்கு பெயரினை தெரிவு செய்வதற்கு

எனக்கும் மனு கிடைத்தது.

பல வருடங்கள் பழைமையான மலைக்கான பெயரை தேட முயல்கிறேன்,

மலைக்கு அதிர்ஷ்ட விஞ்ஞானபடி

பெயரை வைக்குமாறு சிலரும்

தமது கட்சி ஸ்தாபகரின் பெயரை வைக்கும்படி ஒரு கும்பலும்

தாமே மலையை தாங்கியதாக மறு கும்பலும்

மலைகக்கு தேவையான சோறும் தண்ணியும் கொடுத்ததாக இன்னொரு கும்பலும்

தமக்கு இஸ்டமான பெயர்களை பரிந்துரைத்தனர்..

பல்வேறு அழுத்தங்களை மீறி

மலைக்கான பெயரோடு மலைக்கு பெயர் சூட்டும் விழாவிற்கு விரைகிறேன்.

அங்கே நிமிர்ந்த மலை முன்னின்று

என்னால் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட மலைக்கான பெயரினை முதலில் மலையிடம் ரகசியமாக சொல்ல நெருங்கினேன்,

என் குரல் கேட்ட

மலை கதறியது.

மலையின் கண்களில் ரத்தம் கசிய பீறிட்டது.

தனது பசி

தனது உரிமை

தனது துயர்

தன்னை ஏமாற்றும் அதிகார தூண்கள்

இவைகளுக்கு விடிவினை காணாத என்னை பார்த்து விஷஙகளை கக்குமளவிற்கு விம்மியது.

நான் என்ன செய்வேன்,

நான் என்ன செய்வேன்...

Moon not seen

This is the Day of New Moon.

The air has settled down.

Sure there would be rain.

Stars have flowered

No chance for shower.

Don’t counter any and all

No I didn’t. I just spoke the truth;

That’s all.

You have become a skilled orator, my pal.

I speak not. Just say

observing Nature all the way.

That is it.

With bell sounding we turn quiet.

With darkness shrouding

a fort built in the sky sans moon.

I say nothing.

Let things happen

In ways their own

Murmuring so in a voice unheard

He walks on.

With the cloud descending

and thunder resounding

A divine delirium

rise in words

swirling ecstatically.

Those realizing and really belonging

must have been somehow

drenched by now.

நிலாவைக் காணவில்லை

இன்று அமாவாசை

காற்று அமர்ந்து விட்டது மழை பெய்யும்

நட்சத்திரங்கள் பூத்துக் கிடக்கிறது

வாய்ப்பில்லை

எல்லாவற்றையும் எதிர்த்துப் பேசாதே

எதிர்த்துப் பேசவில்லை உண்மையைச் சொன்னேன்

நன்றாக பேசக் கற்றுக் கொண்டுவிட்டாய்

நான் பேசவில்லை இயற்கையைக் கவனித்துச் சொல்கிறேன்

மணியொலிக்க நிசப்திற்கிறோம்

இருள் சூழ

மதியற்ற வானத்தில் கோட்டை கட்டியிருக்கிறது

நான் எதுவும் சொல்லவில்லை

அதது அதன் போக்கில் நடக்கட்டும் என

யாருக்கும் கேட்காத குரலில் முனுமுனுத்தபடியே

நடந்து செல்கிறான்

அந்த மேகம் இறங்கி வர.

இடி இடிக்க

ஒரு சன்னதம் வார்த்தைகளில் எழுந்தாடுகிறது

உணர்ந்தவர்களும் உரிமையானவர்களும்

இந்நேரத்தில் நனைந்திருக்க வேண்டும்

QUARTER OF A CENTURY OLD SOLITUDE

As fish leaping upside down

where do tears go

For how longer the surrounding walls

Opening wide like sluice

wash away the night

Which daytime would retrieve the word

caught in heart’s hook

Despite swirling the quarter of a century old solitude

with killing pain in the neck

what at all the bird with three feathers

will do with my sobbing

The tiny little pencil in hand

and the earless heart move on in one sound

Is the carbon stick

a companion unparalleled

As the weaverbird that has gained expertise

with grabbing grass, lifting grass, bending grass

how the day comes flying

For the slice of air inside

to evaporate

how much one has to boil in life

As the doctor’s medical note written on the throes of death

the heart swings.

And

more than the ant’s leg crushed and maimed

It suffers growing weaker to no end.

கால் நூற்றாண்டுகாலத் தனிமை

தலைகீழாகப் பாயும் மீனாக

கண்ணீர் எங்கே செல்கிறது

இன்னும் எவ்வளவு காலம் மதிலுகள்

மதகு போல் திறந்து

இரவை அடித்துக் கொண்டு செல்லும்

மனதின் கொக்கியில் மாட்டிக்கொண்ட சொல்லை எப்பகல் மீட்கும்

மூன்று சிறகுடைய பறவை

கால் நூற்றாண்டுகாலத் தனிமையை

கழுத்து வலிக்கச் சுழற்றியபின்னும்

என் கேவல்களை என்ன தான் செய்யப்போகிறது

கைவசம் சிறு பென்சில் துண்டும்

காதற்ற இதயமும் ஒரே ஓசையில் நகர்கிறது

கார்பன் குச்சி

தன்னிகரில்லாத் துணை தானோ

புல்லெடுத்துப் புல்நிமிர்த்திப் புல்வளைத்து

தேர்ச்சிபெற்றத் தூக்கணாங்குருவி போல

எப்படிப் பறந்து வருகிறது பகல்

உள்ளிருக்கும் ஒரு துண்டுக் காற்று ஆவியாக

எவ்வளவு வாழ்வில்

கொதிக்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது

மரண அவஸ்தைக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட

மருத்துவக் குறிப்பாய் மனம் ஆடுகிறது

மேலும்

நசுக்கபட்ட எறும்பின் ஊனப்பட்ட காலைவிட மிகவும் மெலிந்து துடிக்கிறது

It would have been better

if such immense affection was

not entrusted in my hands.

Can there be a curse

worse than the boon

given in the hands of one

for whom handling it is

absolutely unknown….

பிள்ளைகள்

இவ்வளவு பெரும் நேசத்தை

1. STILL POND STILL.....

The roaring croaks of the seasonal frogs

Disrupts the quiet of the fish of the pond.

The frogs which till then

remained at the shore

flirt with the fish.

The latter enchanted

declare the roaring croaks

of the frog

Symphony divine;

Poetry pristine.

What at all can

the pond-fish do

Unable to bear this sight

A young poet picks up a

handy stone

and throws it into the pond anon.

He has thrown thus

umpteen number of times.

This time also,

the pond lies unstirred

as always.

சலனமற்ற அந்தக் குளம்

பேரிரைச்சல்

குளத்து

மீன்களின் பேரமைதியை

சஞ்சலப்படுத்துகிறது.

வேறென்ன செய்யும்..

இதை காண சகிக்க முடியாத

இளைய கவிஞனொருவன்

கைக்கு அடக்கமான கல்லொன்றை

குளத்தில் எறிகிறான்.

இது போல பல முறை எறிந்திருக்கிறான்.

இம்முறையும் சலனமற்றுதான்

கிடக்கிறது அந்தக் குளம்

2.BIRD BIZARRE

With intent endeavour

the fins of fish

turned into wings.

Changing its longtime address

Ocean

Into

Sky

Holding on to the bait thrown

soars high

the strange bird.

Pondering over the oddity of

the ocean swelling with water

and the sky with air

It flies ….

For the flight of the fish

They are the reason

The seaborne fish

Suffers thus.

Though fish flying is indeed fantastic

They can’t match the real birds

The stars observe.

After scaling high

Though the fish try

many a time

to leave the bait

the one who holds it

is all set to hold it tight.

விசித்திரப் பறவை

மீனின் செட்டைகள்

சிறகுகளாயின...

சமுத்திரம்

என்ற தன் நீண்ட நாள்

முகவரியை

ஆகாயமென மாற்றிக்கொண்டு

தனக்கு வீசப்பட்ட

தூண்டிலையே பிடிமானமாகக் கொண்டு

உயரப் பறக்கிறது

அந்த விசித்திரப் பறவை

சமுத்திரம் நீராலும்

ஆகாயம் காற்றாலும்

நிரம்பியிருக்கும்

விசித்திரத்தை

எண்ணியப்படி

பறக்கிறது..

மீனின் பறத்தலுக்கு

காரணம்

தாமென

அடிபடுகின்றன

கடல்வாழ்

மீன்கள்

மீனின் பறத்தல் அருமையென்றாலும்

அசல் பறவைக்கு ஈடாகாதென

வின்மீன்கள்

கருத்திடுகின்றன.

உயரம் சென்ற பின்

மீன்

தூண்டிலை விட்டகல

பலபோது

எத்தனித்தாலும்

தூண்டில்காரன்

தன் பிடியை விடுவதாயில்லை...

with never-failing endurance

Have to wade through hours barren

Feeling drowned; thoroughly forlorn

For spinning tales

so many

out of nothing _

There are always too many

Still, try to secure some

to pray for you wholesome

For going past this Life

as inhaling a garden's fragrance

this would suffice.

விதைக்கப்பட்ட

இடத்திலிருந்து தான்

பூத்தெழ வேண்டியிருக்கிறது

பொறுமையோடு

போராட வேண்டியிருக்கிறது

வெறுமையான

பொழுதுகளை

வெந்தபடி

நொந்தபடி கடக்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது

இட்டுக்கட்டவும்

இல்லாததை கூறவும் ஆயிரம் பேர்

இருந்த போதும்

உனக்கென்று பிரார்த்திக்க

சிலரையேனும்

சம்பாதித்துக் கொள்

இந்த வாழ்வை

ஓர் பூங்காவின் வாசனையை

நுகர்ந்தாற் போல் கடந்து
