AMMANI THEN AND NOW

In those days

Ammani didn’t have her back hunched

as now

In the mango tree that stretches as far as her window

there would be giant-ants crawling

it was looking at them that she adorned her

embroidery Krishna

with black Thulsi bead necklace

Now and then a plump lizard would visit

the round Britannia Biscuit box

placed on her table

Its eyes the same as that of her Krishna

Krishna of winter is radiant

Krishna of Summer is dim

His flute has different tinge

for each hole.

It is her grand daughter who would be

inserting thread into the needle-

Wishing to have a glimpse of

Gopikas Cows Govarthan Mount _ all in one go

did she get into the street.

Now to the address of the house

where the giant-black ant crawling mango tree branch

reaches

someone should bring her

and hand over.

முன்பெல்லாம் பாதியாய் முதுகு

வளைந்த கூன் விழுந்திருக்கவில்லை

அவள் அறை ஜன்னலை எட்டும்

மாமரக்கிளையில் பெரிய பெரிய

கட்டெறும்புகள் ஊர்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கும்

அவள் அந்த எறும்புகளைப்

பார்த்துதான் தன் தையல்பூவேலை

கிருஷ்ணனுக்கு கருப்பு துளசிமணி

மாலை கோர்த்தாள்

அவள் மேஜை மேல் இருக்கும்

வட்ட பிரிட்டானியா பிஸ்கட் டப்பா

மூடிக்கு குண்டு பல்லி ஒன்று வந்து போகும்

அதன் கண்கள்தான் அவளுடைய கிருஷ்ணனுக்கும்

குளிர்கால கிருஷ்ணன் பிரகாசமாயிருக்கிறான்

வெயில்கால கிருஷ்ணன் மங்கலாயிருக்கிறான்

அவன் குழல் துளைக்கொரு

வண்ணமாயிருக்கிறது

ஊசியில் நூல் கோர்த்து தருவது பேத்தி

கோபியரும், மாடுகளும், கோவர்த்தனகிரியும்

சேர்க்க கொஞ்சம் வெளியே போய்

பார்த்து வரலாம் என்றுதான்

வீட்டைவிட்டு தெருவில் இறங்கினாள்

இப்போது கட்டெறும்புகள் ஊரும்

மாமரக்கிளை எட்டும் வீட்டு முகவரிக்கு

அவளை யாராவது கொண்டு சேர்க்கவேண்டும்
