TWO POEMS BY
DINOJA NAVARATHNARAJAH

Despite turning ripened and shrunken as
withered leaf
Despite her dark hair getting singed
Despite the dense jungles of memory-corpses
Squeezing and choking the heart
Despite the moments falling dead
Force mirage into her
For the sake of giving her smile
to her grandson or grand daughter
she applies the demonic heat of sun
all over herself.
Fastening inside the eyes
The ramshackled massive dense jungle
Though her eyes wander for and wide
Growing tired
Wondering whether the Lord of Death would arrive
Or the time of that grand arrival
Her hands shiver not.
She who so softly laughs
So as to wade through the present
Oh what would be the riddle
lurking inside her…..
முதிரிலையாய் முற்றிய போதிலும்
கருங்கூந்தலது கருகியபோதும்
நினைவுப்பிணக்காடுகள் மெல்ல
நெஞ்சை நெருக்கிய போதும்
செத்து விழும் கணங்களெல்லாம்
கானலை திணித்த போதும்
பேரனுக்கோ பேத்திக்கோ
புனசிரிப்பை கொடுக்கவென
கொடும் வெயிலள்ளிப் பூசுகிறாள்....
சிதிலமாய் சிதைந்துவிட்ட
கனதிக் கானகப்பரப்பை
கண்களுக்குள் பொருத்தியபடி
காத்திருப்பு தொடர்கிறது...
காலன் வருவானோ_ அதன்
காலம் தான் வருமோவென
கடுகடுக்க விழி மேய்ந்தபோதும்
கைகளில் நடுக்கமில்லை
நிகழ்கணத்தில் நடக்கவென
மெல்லச்சிரிக்குமிவள் உள்ளத்து
விடுகதை தானென்னவோ....

The singular cataract
commencing from the eye
seeping at the corner of lip
wetting the silvery neck
and kneel down at the edge of bosom.
All that the waterfall
which comes streaming like the lava of
Volcano in sudden explosion
causing fire all over
would search for
Is filling its pleasant chill
in the pair of hands warm and gentle
and so killing its own self.
கண்ணிலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட
அவ் ஒற்றையருவி
உதட்டோரம் வழிந்து
வெண்கழுத்தை
நனைத்துக்கொண்டு
மார்போரம் மண்டியிடும்...
திடீரென வெடித்த
எரிமலைக் குழம்புகள்
எங்கெங்கெல்லாம்
தீயை அள்ளி அப்புமோ
அதுபோல்
ஓடி வரும் அவ்வருவி
தேடுவதெல்லாம்
கதகதப்பான
இரு கைகளுக்குள்
தன் தண்மையை
அப்பிக்கொண்டு
தன்னை
மாய்த்துக்கொள்வதையே
