ABDUL SATHAR

THREE POEMS BY

ABDUL SATHAR

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*first Draft)

A man insane he is

Not having the need to face

This world confusion-confounded….

What he does

He knows not at times….

He wants to embrace his fellowmen

and love them with all his heart….

But they shy away

Put off by his outward appearance….

With long dishevelled tresses

Uncouth attires

He remains…

Some make fun of him…

But his heart

Has inherent love for

The universe

And its species

And remains pure pristine.

Seeing how they view him

He wants to hide himself from humans….

He isolates himself

With fears and worries filling him

He languishes in an unnecessary

 sense of guilt…

he realizes nothing

bothers not of anything

he wants to find a release

from all responsibilities…

At night

keeping awake for long

with his soulful eyes

Converses with the moon and stars

Luminous in the sky

He mixes hues in void…

That

Becomes surreal art

You call him a lunatic

But, he in fact is

an enlightened soul.

He sees things that ordinary humans

see not

All his elucidations are exclusive ones

as enticing the future.

His comprehensions deep

His ideas firm

And you call him  insane

Precisely for this – yes?

He is already dead within…

Not having the need to realize anything

And he doesn’t want to live again

For the sake of the world

Outside.

Allow him to live on

As someone dead and gone

within

As a man insane

Instead of living In this world

where

all things fair and just

are extinct

and a life of righteousness

has become a rarity

Being in his own world

as mentally deranged

would be sheer bliss indeed!

As the stone lying in water

I  remain…

in silence

lone…

with no obstruction

Despite seeing the course of Time

Daring to be unafraid….

Discarding  all the burdens

of day

along the way

all too pleasant….

With no worries at heart

Reclining slowly under the shade of tree

I turn light….

In the atmosphere that

I have created for my own self

I  allow my heart to

relax.

Inhaling the air

Soaking in the breeze and

Reveling

Blending  with the day’s beauty

I, being myself

Ho , how blissful it is!

(3)

In those days that echo your name

I slowly walk along the rims of aloneness

and amidst crowds jampacked

As the fading glow of the faraway star above

In the direction where you live

a droplet of my life lingers…

My laughter

in the smile at the corner of your lip

My calm

in those moments of our communion

I have entrusted.

Just as the song that has

forgotten its rhythms

each and every heartbeat of mine

remains incomplete

in tales that never end

and silences with language lost

I search for thee

with a craving beyond words.

When rarely a hairline void

touches thee

Do realize that it is me…

The one who has lost my heart

in thee.

NIZAM SYED

 THREE POEMS BY

NIZAM SYED

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

My photograph

with weapon in hand

in different angles

go out as news many

For you

I deserve to be killed

Kneeling down

Tying my hands at the nape

before setting right the armament

full of shells

Just go to my house and see

For some time

You wouldn’t be able to cross my destinies.

They all brim with the stench of dead bodies

If possible

please retrieve and hand over the

corpses of children

buried in ruins.

For getting lost

a small sorrow proved suffice

The image seen in the piece of glass

broken in a terrible fall

none wants to celebrate.

Karmic fault

would make us stand forsaken

thus.

Exiting is not so easy

If there are no hues

suiting your whims and fancies

 -no issues

I will be a strand of feather

wandering directionless

along the wind’s course.

Those who rarely visited

had come

Welcoming them with a smile

Playing the ideal host

offering them hot Tea

We were chitchatting.

The Alarm didn’t sound in time.

Getting ready all too hurriedly

I came to office

During the Tea-break

I remembered.

Wonder what they did….

Those visited in my dream.

PAADHASAARI VISWANATHAN

 FOUR POEMS BY

PAADHASAARI VISWANATHAN

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

(1)

In women’s tears

there could be trickery at times

But man’s tears don’t pretend ever.

By and large

In the hushed up sobs of man

Tears would burn with

the pulsating heat of veracity, for sure.

(2)

Stench unbearable yet it is manure

Organic manure that decays to help crops

Flourish and so live on….

Stench horrendous

for you alone

Not for the seeds

Stench horrendous

All the same

It is care; vigour

(3)

Man has

The House of Heart

Forever holding it as his belonging

He suffers  day in and day out….

At times

even other’s house

He assumes to be his

and thereby undergoes

sufferings utmost.

(4)

Earth-like

Our heart is

In incline

It circles itself

and others too

Just as Earth

heart too

has shadow

But Earth-like endurance

heart lacks – Alas.

VATHILAIPRABHA

TWO POEMS BY

VATHILAIPRABHA

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan (* First Draft)

(1)

He felled the tree

With two huge tusks

an elephant fell down

Using giant lorries

He removed those elephants

That lay there with there bellies

ripped open

They were elephants that

blessed him

placing their trunk on his head

It is the same he thus blessed

every time

is felling them and slicing them.

Still more trees all over the jungle

serenely  blessing.

*POEM WRITTEN FOR WORLD ELEPHANT DAY

That flower starts dropping off

Just as the flight of butterfly.

It bids farewell to  the wind.

To that stalk too that held it last

Why even to the plant that has made it wither

He who watered would come.

For any and everyone having soft heart

with no venom mixed.

Silent it remains

for the sake of  slipping down.

The blossom that doesn’t refute

No matter for whom or what

For whom it is waiting still

Will the insects that relished honey

come?

‘Oh, you blooming face’

How can he henceforth write so ?

In the consummation of the final journey

the flower slides its soft body.

Causing  grand vibrations

the buds break out!

K.C.AMBIKAVARSHINI

A POEM BY

K.C.AMBIKAVARSHINI

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan (*First Draft)

The White bud

to be flowering today

The first squirrel

climbing on the ribs of

fractured branch

The early morn’s leaving of

the electric-wire parrots

The beak of the peacock

alighting into the lawn

The regimented cloud-cover of the

Sun dawned

The winnowing of the

Wild oats

with roots moving off the arable land

The same East of

the different windows

through which we –

 Father and I – perceive.

PUNITHA JOTHI

 A POEM BY

PUNITHA JOTHI

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

When I turned a Truth into an Orange

and began peeling its skin

Many found it comprising

sour slices.

Some found them to be

sweet segments.

Some saw it

as rotten fruit.

But in my hand

It remains ever

as an Orange.

‘THE DELUGE OF THE MASS OF SILENCE

KANNAN VISWAGANDHI

POEMS BY

KANNAN VISWAGANDHI

Rendered in English by Latha Ramakrishnan (*First Draft)

1

“Mother would surely come. Don’t go anyway”

As the school boy

Sitting in the same spot

believing the word

I remain there

Only you who promised you would return

is not seen

--+--++++++----

2

Soon after yesterday’s festival coming to a close

Cleaning the place and arranging things

“Mother can be seen again

only on the day of Navarathri”

muttered to herself

My wife

who keeps searching for Mother

who had passed away

Post our marriage.

3

As the kitten playing mischief with its tail

 jumping and leaping

My heart _

that at the turn

from out of blue

saw the tail of  train.

--------++++++----

4

Would rain all over

and fail without fail

in the place of penance

 _ This rain ruthless

Just as thee.
