CEASE TO BE OF USE

As

a piece of paper

Torn footwear

Worn-out attire

Withered leaf

Broken glass

No – not like that

For a good poem

Examples such as these

Outmoded

Exhausted

However beautifully they are aligned

As they obstruct space and sense

They are redundant

Irrelevant

How so ever close an association be

When it turns useless

Even love is superfluous

Just as high-quality perfume

which after using the lid not shut

We should turn dry with nothing left.

உபயோகமற்றுப்போதல்

ஒரு

கிழிந்த காகிதம் போல,

அறுந்த செருப்பு போல,

நைந்த உடுப்பு போல,

உதிர்ந்த இலை போல,

உடைந்த கண்ணாடி போல

அல்ல...

நல்ல கவிதைக்கு -

தேய்வழக்காகி

தீர்ந்துபோன

இவ்வாறான உவமைகள்

எவ்வளவு அழகாக அடுக்கப்பட்டிருந்தாலும்,

இடத்தையும்

பொருளையும்

அடைத்துக்கொண்டு நிற்பதால்,

அநாவசியமானவையே.

உயிரணைய

உறவேயாயினும்,

உபயோகமற்றுப் போகையில்

அன்பும் மிகைதான்.

உபயோகித்தபின்

மூடிவைக்க மறந்துவிட்ட

உயர்தர வாசனைத் திரவியம்

ஒன்றினைப் போல,

துளியும் மீதமின்றி

உலர்ந்துபோய்விட வேண்டும்

இருந்த தடயமேதுமில்லாமல்.
