KSTALIN KANNAN

 A POEM BY

KSTALIN KANNAN

Translated into English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

IT RAINED THAT DAY…..

It was on a day when
due to torrential downpour
the school bell rang earlier
Anbu could get time to go
two more rounds in
friend’s Gear cycle.
Krishnan could unhurriedly
steal groundnuts grown in the
adjacent field
and eat to his heart’s content.
Coming across two making love
illicitly
behind a heap of straw
Thirumalai is taken aback
Ganesh hurries with the free egg
and gives it to his dear little sister
waiting at home.
Without the knowledge of his mother
who had asked him to go milk the cow
Arivu allows the calf
some more time to relish.
Anandhan alone
who went to the brimming pond
for playing
secretly
floats there past six o’ clock.
” If only the school had not closed earlier
than usual that day….”
The mother would be lamenting in the well of night
The Rain poured that day
would come now and then
and console that hapless woman.
