MAKEOVER

Wearing elder sister’s

worn-out clothes

she would play the hopscotch game

Merely seeing the full-skirt and blouse in the bazaar

she turning ecstatic

changed however to full-skirt and half-sari and

went inside the secluded shack.

whirling in the merry-go—round called Time

and coming to stand on the ground

staggering

She felt bewildered to the core.

For the lone child born of her

Full-skirt and blouse not familiar.

Nor the hopscotch game

She has not seen bazaar;

nor the shack-like structure at all.

Her wardrobe overflows with attires

But as one standing at a distance

and enjoys the spray of rain

Suffice to have one jeans pant for a week

says she again and again!

இடைவெளிக் கோளாறு

அக்காவின் பழைய ஆடைகளையே உடுத்தி

சில்லு நொண்டி விளையாடுவாள்.

மஞ்சள் பூ போட்ட

பாவாடை சட்டையை

சந்தையில் புதிதாய்ப் பார்த்தே பூரித்தவள்

பாவாடை தாவணிக்கு மாறிக்

குச்சிற்குள் போய்விட்டாள்.

கால ராட்டிணத்தின் வேகத்திலிருந்து

தட்டுத் தடுமாறி தரையில் நிற்பவளுக்கு

தலையும் புரியவில்லை

காலும் புரியவில்லை.

தான் ஈன்ற ஒற்றைக் குழந்தைக்கு

பாவாடை சட்டையே பழக்கமில்லை

சில்லு நொண்டியும் தெரியவில்லை

சந்தையையும் கண்டதில்லை

குச்சும் புரியவில்லை

அலமாரியில் நிரம்பி வழிகிறது ஆடையருவி.

தூரமாய் நின்று

சாரலில் நனைவதைப் போல

ஒரே கால் சட்டைதான்

ஒரு வாரத்திற்கு என்கிறாள்!
