AASU SUBRAMANIAN

Only when the fish comes to the surface of the lake

it would feel the worm in the bait.

That it is an earthworm

the fish would well be aware.

The tongue that relished eating

many a baby fish of its own clan

gets caught in the bait-thorn

by reason of a taste alien.

The baiter revels

because the fish pulls along the cork

and flees downward

All the fishes caught

are not hunted by him

Despite warning given by wave

the fish get caught in the net

voluntarily.

Could it be that the sea-ravens

hovering above

going round and round

above the water

cautioning thus

is precisely for this....

ஏரியின்

நீர்ப்பரப்பில்

மீன் மேய்ச்சலுக்கு

வரும்போது தான்

தூண்டில் புழுவை

தொட்டுப் பார்க்கும்.

மண்புழு என

அதற்கும் தெரியும்

தன் இனத்தின்

மீன் குஞ்சுகளை

தின்றுத் தின்று

சுவைத்த நாவுக்கு

வேறொன்றின்

சுவையால் தான்

தூண்டில் முள்ளில்

சிக்கிக் கொள்கிறது.

தூண்டில்காரன் ஆர்ப்பரிப்பது

தக்கையை மீன் நீரினுள்

உள்ளிழுத்து ஓடுவதால்.

அகப்பட்ட மீன்களெல்லாம்

அவன் வேட்டையில் அல்ல.

அலை எச்சரித்தும்

மீன்கள் தூண்டிலில்

தானாக சிக்கிக்கொள்கின்றன

நீரின் மீது ஆகாயத்தில்

நீர்க் காகங்கள்

வட்டமிட்டு பறந்து

எச்சரிப்பதும் அதற்காக தானோ?
