RAJAJI RAJAGOPALAN

 A POEM BY

RAJAJI RAJAGOPALAN

(MANARKAADAR)

Translated into English by Latha Ramakrishnan(*First Draft)

The flame of fire on the dry firewood
Embraced the wet one.
The both burning in union
Both of them remained watching it.
This is what happens in every household, said the wife
It went above his head.
In her tears the rest of the story
was dissolving
He didn’t care to understand that also.
He who played ‘Thavil’ just like Datchinamurthy
Came to Toronto city.
Kindling flames with fingers
when he cast a nonchalantly look at the audience
He caused a puncture in the instrument
Datchinamurthy was also torn
and he had made his instrument too
hole-borne.
More than the king-to-be William
It is his younger brother Henry who is
trending in the news – right
So, go for love marriage
You, rebels!
Each day in a different shade
The Maple trees wear a veil
They which are going to shine
Golden could be
Nature’s gift for beautifying
this poor man’s abode
at least for a day.
Indulging in nonstop discoursing
They -
writing under women’s name.
