FOR A FELLOW POET....

(*DEDICATED TO POET JEYADEVAN)

When a Poet breathes his last

Nothing happens

The Sun remains the same

Sea doesn’t undergo any change

The Moon too shines the same

In jungles the massive trees

stand as usual

People too as usual

go past, paying least attention to the poet

Those who know feel the loss

and feel sad

For those who don’t know

Just some elderly person

Or a young man

Or a person

Or a patient

passed away.

The heart of language that for the entire life-span

stayed alive functioning admirably admiring

has come to repose.

Everything remains as before.

No change whatsoever

That day also bloom many a flower

Of them one is that which bloomed in the

verse of the Poet now no more.

ஒரு கவிஞன் மரணிக்கும் போது

எதுவும் நிகழ்ந்து விடவில்லை

வெயில் அப்படியே இருக்கிறது

கடலில் மாற்றம் இல்லை

நிலவும் அப்படியே இருக்கிறது

காடுகளில் பெரிய மரங்கள்

அப்படியே இருக்கின்றன

மக்களும் எப்பவும் போல்

ஒரு கவிஞனை கவனிக்காது போய்க்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.

அறிந்தவர்கள் துக்கத்தை அனுஷ்டிக்கிறார்கள்.

அறியாதவர்களுக்கு

ஒரு வயதானவரோ

ஒரு இளைஞரோ ஒரு மனிதரோ

ஒரு நோயாளியோ

இறந்துவிட்டார்.

காலமெல்லாம் வியந்து இயங்கிய மொழியின் இதயம் ஓய்வு பெற்றுவிட்டது.

எல்லாம் அப்படியே தான் இருக்கின்றன

எதிலும் மாற்றமில்லை

அன்றும் செடிகளில் மலர்கள் பூக்கின்றன

அதில் ஒரு பூ மரணித்த கவிஞனின்

கவிதையில் பூத்த பூ
