The song that came rushing into the train compartment

leapt out jumping
Leaning down the steps I pulled it back
into the compartment
The journey commenced.

The Gauva girl
carrying the tales of her place
goes around distributing the tastes of soil.

In the jasmine flowers
that the lad who should have gone to school
extended
_ Mother’s face.

This train is now tearing the day
and going beyond five lands
streaming inside the sixth.
Time is Twelve noon.

Ere the distant land arrives
some more would get inside.
They too would load
some more substances
in this journey.

In the railway station
where Konangi’s cucumber lass is to alight
I recline waiting for a snake charmer
to hand over the song.

ரயில்பெட்டிக்குள் வேகமாய் நுழைந்த பாடல்
துள்ளி வெளியேறிக் குதித்தது
படிக்கட்டில் சாய்ந்து
அதனை மீண்டும் இழுத்து பெட்டிக்குள்
போட்டேன்
பயணம்
தொடங்கியது
கொய்யாய் பெண்
அவள் ஊர்க்கதைகளைச் சுமந்து
நிலத்தின் சுவையை
பகிர்ந்துச் செல்கிறாள்
பள்ளிக்குச் சென்றிருக்க வேண்டிய சிறுவன்
கொண்டு நீட்டிய மல்லிகைப் பூக்களில்
தாயாரின் முகம்
இந்தரயில் இப்போது பகலைக் கிழித்து
ஜந்து நிலம் கடந்து
ஆறாவது நிலத்திற்குள்
பாய்ந்து
கொண்டிருக்கிறது
மணி நண்பகல் பனிரெண்டு
தூரதேசம் வருவதற்குள்
இன்னும் சிலர் பெட்டிக்குள்
நுழையக் கூடும்
அவர்களும் சில ரசானயங்களை
இப்பயணத்தில் ஏற்றுவார்கள்
கோணங்கியின் வெள்ளரிப்பெண்
இறங்குகிற நிலையத்தில்
நானொரு பாம்பாட்டியை
எதிர்பார்த்துப்
படுத்திருக்கிறேன்
