LEAVING ONE’S MOTHERLAND…..

In the existential wilderness where the saplings of relief

get scorched

Every now and then cries this heart innermost

As a baby lost

Sacrificing one’s feelings and emotions

Burying deep one’s desires

Hours speed past

in masquerade.

The heart yearns to

roll on the soil

where some time or other

a few momentary thirsts

were avidly gulped

For eyes turned dry

The wish to see the lovely swing and sway

of the street of our hometown

and feel joyous

swells and overflows.

Soft food smashed by mother’s benign hand

Karuvaadu fried by father

_The heart yearns to relish it

with the entire family

sitting under the courtyard neem tree

Tender coconut water of the plantain tree

and ‘Nungu’ of the palymra

plucking them in clusters

many

with friends collectively

and drinking those wine divine

cause thirst intense in my tongue.

With dreams and memories

brimming in angst

The lips alone wear a coating of smile

all the while.

In truth, well -

Leaving one’s mother land

is no big deal;

Not that terrible _

Till you experience its feel.

ஆசுவாசத் துளிர்கள்

கருகிப்போகும் வாழ்வியல் வனாந்தரத்தில்

ஒரு மழலையென அவ்வப்போது வீறிட்டுக் கதறுகிறது

இந்த ஆழ்மனது

உணர்வுகளைப் பலியிட்டு

ஆசைகளை ஆழப்புதைத்து

வேடம் தரித்து

நகர்கின்றன நாழிகைகள்

ஒரு பொழுதேனும்

சில தருணத் தாகம்

அள்ளித்தின்ற மண்ணில்

உருண்டு பிரளத் தாளாத ஏக்கம்

காய்ந்து போன விழிகளுக்கு

ஊர்த் தெருவின் எழிலசைவைக்

கண்டுகளிக்க வீறிடும் விருப்பு

அம்மா கைபிசைந்த குளைசோறும்

அப்பா சுட்டுத்தரும் கருவாடும்

முற்றத்து வேப்பமர நிழலில்

குடும்பமாய் உண்டு சுவைக்கப் பேரவா

தென்னை மர இளநீரும்

பனை மரத்து நொங்கும்

நண்பர்களோடு கூடிக்

குலை குலையாய்ப் பறித்துப் பருகிய

தேவலோக பானங்கள் எல்லாம்

நாவிற் பெரும் தாக ஊற்று

கனவுகளும் நினைவுகளும்

பரிதவிப்பால் நிறைந்திருக்க

உதடுகள் மட்டும் புன்னகை முலாம்

புதுப்பித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது

உண்மையில்,

தாய் நிலத்தைப் பிரிதல் என்பது

அத்தனை கொடுமையானது அல்ல;

அதை நீங்கள் அனுபவிக்காதவரை!
