THE BURNING TRUTH

Swiftly he came

Must be twelve year old

Straightaway sinking his hands into the toilet-bowl

He began cleaning it.

‘Why this boy is languishing so

Not going to school - Ho, no…’

‘Sir, work is done

Pay me soon

I should go and buy

liquor for my father

Sounding caustic, sarcastic

the man of the house

threw abusive words

heartlessly on him

who couldn’t protest

Quietly the boy uttered those words

as stinging slap on the man’s face

“My dad drinks not out of conceit,

but for desilting the gutter, you see.

எரிந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது

அவசரமாய் வந்தான்

அவனுக்கு பனிரெண்டிருக்கும்

கக்கூஸ் கோப்பைக்குள்

கைகள் நுழைத்துக் கழுவ ஆரம்பித்தான்.

பள்ளிக்குச் செல்லாமல்

ஏனிவன்

பாழ்பட்டுப் போனான் ...?

" ஸார்.. கழுவிட்டேன்

கூலி கொடுக்க...

சீக்கிரம் அப்பனுக்கு

சாராயம் வாங்க போகணும்..."

எள்ளலாய் அவரோ

இதயமற்ற வசைகளை

எதிர்க்க இயலா அவன் மீது

இரக்கமின்றி வீசினார்.

நிதானமாய் அவன்

நெற்றியடியாய் சொன்னான் _

" எங்க அப்பன்

குடிக்கிறது

திமிருக்கில்ல....

சாக்கடை தூர் வார்றதுக்கு. "
