RAJAJI RAJAGOPALAN

On a day when the gods were fast asleep

that country was butchered.

The sky where their hapless souls wandered

choked by the thick smoke emitted by the mortars

started coughing.

Flood of blood drowned the horizon.

The desperate soul screamed and cried.

Alas it reached the ears of no god. None.

When it finally died down

the gods woke up.

If only we had been awake

we wouldn’t have allowed this to happen

They roared

At least the spirit could have been

allowed to remain alive

those who killed it are not cannons

nor gods who chose not to listen

but we, the now living ones.

கடவுள்கள் தூங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தவொரு நாளில்

அந்த நாடு கொல்லப்பட்டது

அதன் ஆத்மா அந்தரித்துச் சஞ்சரித்த வான்வெளி

பீரங்கிகள் எழுப்பிய புகை மூட்டத்தால்

இரும ஆரம்பித்தது

குருதி வெள்ளம் அடிவானத்தை மூழ்கடித்தது

ஆத்மாவின் அந்தரிப்பு அலறலாய் எழுந்தது

எந்தக் கடவுளின் காதிலும் அது விழவில்லை

இறுதியில் அது ஓய்ந்து அடங்கியபோது

கடவுள்கள் தூக்கம் கழிந்தனர்

நாம் விழிப்பாக இருந்திருந்தால்

அந்த நாடு கொல்லப்பட்டதை

அனுமதித்திருக்கமாட்டோமென ஆர்ப்பரித்தனர்

ஆத்மாவையாவது உயிர்த்திருக்க வைத்திருக்கலாம்

அதைக் கொன்றது பீரங்கிகளல்ல

கேளாதிருந்த கடவுள்களுமல்ல

இப்போது உயிர்பிழைத்து வாழ்கின்ற நாம்
