EX-BELOVED’S HUBBY

Yesterday I was waiting in Pondy Bazaar

to see the husband of my ex-lover

I know not how he looks like

Would go this way at this time

In a bike – that’s all the clue

In which shade he would be wearing his shirt

crop or helmet

Does he wear spectacles, wristwatch

Scooty or ducati

I know nothing at all

But, ex-beloved’s husband would come this way only

If he comes to know of my standing here

what would he think

- I can only blink.

This is how I have seen my ex-beloved’s mother

or sister brother

father, even grandparents

and lived on.

On those occasions

my heart would experience joy in abundance

of having played the hero

inside the lines of a novel or short story.

Friends, you at least might write a tale

captioned

At Pondy bazaar searching for ex-beloved’s ‘better-half ‘

When you do write

Just add a line without fail

About that long rainy day

When the two strolled along

under the same umbrella

all the way

பழைய காதலியின் கணவன்

நேற்று பாண்டி பஜாரில் காத்திருந்தேன்

பழைய காதலியின் கணவனை பார்க்க

அவன் கறுப்பா சிவப்பா

எதுவும் தெரியாது

இந்த பக்கமாக் இத்தனை மணிக்கு

அவன் பைக்கில் போவான்

அவ்வளவுதான் குறிப்பு

அவன் எந்த நிறத்தில் சட்டையணிந்திருப்பன்

கிராப்பா ஹெல்மட்டா

கண்ணாடி,கைகடிகாரம் உண்டா

ஸ்கூட்டியா டுகாட்டியா

எதுவுமே தெரியாது

ஆனால் பழைய காதலியின்

கணவன் இந்தவழியாகத்தான் வருவான்

அப்படி வருபவனுக்கு

இப்படி நான் நிற்பது தெரிந்தால்;

என்ன நினைப்பான்

அதுவும் தெரியாது

பழைய காதலியின் அம்மாவை

அல்லது சகோதரியை சகோதரனை

அப்பாவை தாத்தாவை பாட்டியைக்கூட

இப்படித்தான் பார்த்து வாந்திருக்கிறேன்

அச்சமயங்கலில் ஒரு நாவல்

அல்லது சிறுகதையின் ‘

வரிகளூக்குள் நாயகனாக நடித்த

மகிழ்ச்சி பொங்கும்

நண்பர்களே நீங்களாவது

பாண்டிபஜாரில் பழைய காதலியின் கணவனைத் தேடி

எனும் தலைப்பில் ஒருகதை எழுதலாம்

அப்படி எழுதும் போது

ஒரே வரி மட்டும் சேர்த்து எழுதிவிடுங்கள்

ஒரு மாலையில் ஒரே குடையில்

இருவரும் நடந்து சென்ற அந்த

நீண்ட மழை நாளை
