For a plant sprouted just the other day

Its mother tree teaches

how to withstand the onslaught of gale

Thrusting out a handful of sand from inside the hole

the ants shift to another spot hurriedly.

Citing as reason the tornado and the torrential rain

rhe wife stops the husband from proceeding to office

inviting him to indulge in love.

My son fumes every now and then

cursing the current-cut.

Calling me over the phone

and enquiring after my well being

my friend observes how nice it would be

to have a cup of tea and cigarette

during this non-stop downpour.

And I keep listening all engrossed

to the tale of the storm

that lashed out when mom

was a lass.

நெடுந்தீவு நேதாமோகன்

நேற்று முளைத்த செடி

ஒன்றிற்கு புயலை எதிர்க்க

கற்றுக்கொடுக்கிறது தாய்மரம்

புற்றுக்குள் இருந்து

ஒரு தொகை மண்ணை வெளியேற்றி

அவசரமாக இடமாறுகிறது எறும்புக்கூட்டம்

வேலைக்குச் செல்லும் கனவனை

புயலையும் தீராத மழையையும் காரணம் காட்டி

காதலிக்க அழைக்கிறாள் மனைவி

மின்சாரத்தடங்கலுக்காக

அடிக்கடி சினந்து கொள்கிறான் மகன்

என் நண்பன் தொலைபேசியில் அழைத்து

இந்த அடைமழைக்கு

தேனீரும் சிகரெட்டும்

குடித்தால் நன்றாய் இருக்கும்

என்று நலம் விசாரிக்கிறான்

நானோ

அம்மா சிறுமியாக இருக்கும் போது

அடித்த புயல்பற்றிய கதையினை

ஆச்சரியமாக கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்.
