It was the post master’s house, said they

A big house with portico, said they

There was no such house

There would be the nameplate POST OFFICE

hanging at the entrance, said they

No such nameplate was hanging there

There would be white-wall with railing,

said they

Nothing of that sort could be seen there

A tall door would be at the portal, said they

No such door was there

There would be mango-trees standing in the open courtyard, said they

Not so there

Yet they call it

the Post Master’s house.

அதுதான் போஸ்ட் மாஸ்டர் வீடு என்றார்கள்

போர்டிகோ உள்ள பெரிய வீடு என்றார்கள்

அப்படிப் பெரியதொரு வீடு அங்கே இருக்கவில்லை

தபால் அலுவலகம் என்ற பெயர்ப் பலகை

வாசலில் தொங்கும் என்றார்கள்

அப்படிப் பலகை எதுவும் தொங்கவில்லை

கிறாதி போட்ட வெள்ளைச் சுவர் இருக்குமென்றார்கள்

அப்படியொரு சுவர் அங்கே இருக்கவில்லை

உயர்ந்த தலைவாசல் கதவு இருக்குமென்றார்கள்

அப்படிக் கதவு எதுவும் அங்கே இருக்கவில்லை

முற்றத்தில் மாமரங்கள் நிற்கும் என்றார்கள்

மாமரங்கள் எதுவும் அங்கே நிற்கவில்லை

அப்படியிருந்தும் அந்த வீட்டை

போஸ்ட் மாஸ்டர் வீடு என்றே சொல்கிறார்கள்.
