A POEM BY
KOSINRA:
Translated by Latha Ramakrishnan
POETRY
Wherever a human is burnt
as a heinous
social malady,
Wherever lovers are
separated in casteist fanaticism,
Wherever a human life
withers due to callous indifference
of the powers-that-be,
Wherever a gruesome act is
staged as a blatant violation,
Wherever a fraud takes
place in the name of god,
wherever a country forces
war onto another land,
wherever the country’s
wealth is swindled and looted
by another nation,
wherever terrorism sprouts
in the lands of religion,
wherever extremism kills
people,
there, a voice of protest
would rise on its own.
From that very first
alphabet of that cry
springs my poem.
{His original name is G.Rajendran. he has been contributing to Tamil Literary field for more than fifteen years in the capacity of a poet endowed with a deep sense of social consciousness and a rich poetic style. His poems are comments on the contemporary society with its ever increasing disparities between the haves and have-nots and also a search for viewing the ‘big picture’ of life with its millions of unravelled secrets.
So far two poem-collections of his have come under the titles, EN KADAVULUM ENNAI POLAVE KARUPPU (My god is also black like me) and POONAIYIN KADAVULL ( The God of Cats).}
